The manual brake or slack adjuster assembly used in commercial vehicles has air brakes with ‘S’ cam shaft. The product transmits the braking torque to the ‘S’ cam, facilitating an adjustment of the clearance between the brake lining and brake drum, primarily caused due to the deterioration of brake lining. The slack adjuster assembly is mounted on the ‘S’ cam shaft, one end connected to the push rod of the brake chamber. When the brake pedal is pressed, air enters the brake chamber, thrusting the pushrod out and moving the slack adjuster assembly. As the slack adjuster assembly is mounted on the ‘S’ cam shaft, the shaft rotates and forces away the brake shoes, pressing against the brake drum, resulting in the brake application. The basic function of this product is to convert linear motion into rotary ‘S’ cam motion. When the gap between the brake drum and brake lining is increased due to brake lining wear, the slack adjuster assembly hexagon (adjusting nut) rotates manually that rotates the ‘S’ cam and adjusts the gap between the brake drum and lining.
The Haldex S-ABA automatic brake adjuster leverages innovative self-setting flexible design to offer two benefits that have revolutionised brake adjuster fitting: a free selection of the control arm position and error-free installation.
The Haldex S-ABA functions irrespective of the position of the control arm. Previously a brake adjuster could function with the control arm in one pre-designated position. However, self-setting means no time-consuming adjustments during installation, helping fix the control arm and achieve the correct pre-determined running clearance.
